Athletes have known about the benefits of high intensity interval training (HIIT) exercise routines for years, however many of us have only heard about HIIT workouts without really understanding the benefits. I decided to dig into what a High intensity interval training workout consist of. So, besides the fact that it sounds exhausting, a HIIT workout is a mixture of alternating short, intense cardio exercise’s with short recovery periods. Okay, so why all the hype? Traditional Workout vs. HIIT
When I go to the gym my workout takes anywhere from 60 to 75 minutes; if I dedicate 30 minutes to cardio. Whereas, a HIIT workout can be done before work, on lunch break or squeezed in at the end of the day. How? Because a HIIT workout only takes 15 minutes to complete. You can achieve results during 15 minutes of interval training (completed three times a week) than the gym rat running on a treadmill for an hour. Sweet! Sign me up!
