Everywhere I look there is an ad talking about Matcha! From my Instagram feed to my Facebook ads. My Crazy Green World was full of Matcha Madness, of course, I was determined to find out why. So, here is my attempt to explain just what this green powder IS and why the world has gone Matcha CRAZY!
Simply put, Matcha is natural, organic caffeinated green tea. Matcha is made by finely stone grinding the tea leaves which makes the bright green powder we see in stores. The difference between Matcha tea and other green tea is the number of vitamins Matcha contains, and Matcha’s long list of health benefits. Oh! Did I mention caffeine? Matcha has three times more caffeine than other green teas! HELLO!
Matcha contains minerals, antioxidants, and amino acids unlike any of the other green teas out there. Matcha is also an excellent source of vitamins A, C, E, K, and vitamin B-complex. Guess what? The list doesn’t end there! Matcha is rich in super antioxidants including polyphenols, catechins, and chlorophyll. Seriously? Why didn’t I look this up sooner! If you are not sold yet, read MY top three health benefits to consider if you are thinking of adding Matcha to your daily routine.
Helps Maintain a Strong Immune System
Matcha contains multiple antioxidants, polyphenols, EGCG, L-theanine (say that three times fast!) which when combined, work together to boost the bodies immune systems defense!
Controls Type-2 Diabetes
Some research shows that Matcha tea may be able to help maintain a healthy metabolism in people with diabetes. As stated above, since Matcha is rich with antioxidant’s it aids in reducing levels of triglycerides, cholesterol, and hepatic glucose content in diabetic individuals.
The third benefit of Matcha is that it helps maintain cardiovascular health. How? Well, be ready for another word I cannot pronounce…epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) EGCG helps keep cholesterol levels low.
Knowing all the goodness this bright green powder can do for our bodies, I will join the madness and get my Matcha on! Follow the link and endulge in my new Matchia-Chia pudding recipe!
